Somatic mindfulness: still water
How often does your mind feel churned up and tossed about, like a shaken jar of water? In this somatic exercise, we reflect on how to let our minds settle, by simply taking some time for the chaos to gently drift to the bottom, as the surface stills.
10-year-old Neledi Lethokuhle Mopai is the daughter of Bhuti Mopai, our good friend and How we media collaborator. The family filmed this somatic exercise together in a small village in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. Neledi’s twin brother, Neo Mmelokuhle, was the production assistant. Neledi loves to play netball, garden, knit, and read. Currently she is reading one of her father’s favorite authors, South African/Botswana writer Bessie Head, who often poignantly described the contradictions and injustices of pre and post-colonial African society.
This is also our first proud collaboration with author, somatic educator, artist, and Medicinal Media somatic script writer Abigail Rose Clarke.
