Cinematic stories can be great tools for connection and more

Video by Rob VanAlkemade / Medicinal Media.

Cinema therapy (sometimes referred to as cinetherapy) is the use of film and TV for improved well-being — and it actually can do just that for some. Viewers in a study at University College London (UCL) reported closer social bonding among perfect strangers in a theater. Their heart rates even started syncing while watching together. Cinematic stories can help people to find catharsis in laughter and tears, hope and encouragement from the experiences of others, and a rediscovery of one’s own strengths.
